The 2022 Acura MDX Type S is said to arrive this summer, after the release of the TLX Type S. This vehicle will be the first SUV in the Acura line-up to get this high-performance trim.
Its engine will be a 355 horsepower turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 with 10-speed automatic transmission. The new MDX will have better handling, due to an improved chassis and suspension.
There are quad exhaust outlets at the corners of the bumper and a rear splitter appears to be finished in gloss black. More gloss black accents are present on the rear bumper and side trim.
Much of the TLX Type S features are mirrored in this new model. Pricing is estimated to be around the $50,000 range.
This vehicle will also feature Acura's signature Super Handling All-Wheel Drive. Its Brembo front brake calipers are larger and it sits on 21-inch wheels.
Modern quilted leather seating surfaces are available, as well as massaging front seats and a 25-speaker Signature Edition ELS STUDIO 3D®32 audio system.
With the Type S variants, Acura hopes to bring us back to its performance roots. There are still going to be a lot of similarities with the current MDX model. This one will of course have more of a performance exterior and handling.
There is a 9-mode massaging front seat with accent stitching all around. It has trim-specific colors and branding across the interior. A 12.3-inch infotainment screen is available across the lineup and is controlled by a touchpad interface.
Acura hasn’t said much about the exterior colors. Experts believe that we will see a lot of the usual choices, although we are also expected to see the new Tiger Eye Pearl color. For the interior colors, Acura will debut the new Light Orchid color.
